Nils Stærk is a contemporary art gallery with an international profile, established in 1997 and dedicated to presenting contemporary art.
Today the gallery represents mid-career and established national and international artists working in different media, approaches and genres. In common the artists share a conceptual narrative and an interest in investigating and exploring critical dissemination of current values and conflicts in today’s globalized society.
For more than a decade, the gallery has participated yearly in three international art fairs – Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach and Zona Maco in Mexico.
Since its inception, Nils Stærk has contextualized the gallery program by developing and establishing collaborations within particular the Central and Latin-American art scene, as well as art institutions, biennales and galleries throughout the world with the primary priority to create new projects and opportunities for the artists as well as placing their work in important art collections.
The location of the gallery started out in a warehouse district at Islands Brygge, followed by ten years in the old area of the Carlsberg breweries. In Spring 2017 the gallery re-located to the raw industrial Northwest part of Copenhagen in a 500 m2 former car workshop and is now dedicated to five-yearly curated solo shows alongside a showroom for changing presentations. The Northwest part of Copenhagen still bears the mark of a raw aesthetic and this contrasts with the open minimalistic interior designed by Henning Larsen Architects. This aesthetic is perfectly matched with the gallery’s artistic profile.
