Founded in 2005, Freight + Volume’s original location was in the gallery rich neighborhood of Chelsea in Manhattan, New York City. Established by Nick Lawrence known as the co-founder and former partner of LFL Gallery, owner/director of Arts+Leisure, and owner/director of DNA Residency; his experience in the field can be seen in the quality of Freight + Volume. The gallery is the result of a merge between its book focused two-year predecessor, Volume, and a motivation to show dynamic and provocative new work in all mediums. Predominantly interested in narrative and text-based material, the gallery is foremost invested in the quality of the work itself regardless of technique, medium, content, or style. Freight + Volume relocated to the Lower East Side of Manhattan in October, 2015.
