THE BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE
We are pleased to present 30 artworks on paper belonging to ""The Book of Knowledge" a plastic epic started in 2014 by The london artist Mick Finch and still going on.
.Mick Finch says that this famous Book of Knowledge which circulated among English families in the sixties, a "popular" version of the famous Britannica, was the object, the first medium which allowed him to "understand" the world. He spent hours looking at the volumes and they were the earliest photographic images he had been exposed to and were responsible for creating a highly over determined world view in the mind of a young boy. It then reflected an England, monarchy and colonial empire at the end of the war, with its certainties, its aspirations and its anxieties.
Each piece that compose it, bearing a number, is reminiscent of botanist / naturalist boards, which here and through the artist's gaze would record this History, in these sequences, movements.
