STO AND AND O
With an interest in printed matter, book design and craftsmanship artist Louis Reith creates drawings, collages, paintings and installations. The found material is always chosen by personal interest into colour, form, theme and balance, which are then translated into new compositions. These compositions are made intuitively and refined consciously, playing with the illusion of mechanical versus handmade.
For ‘Sto and and o’ the artist created a new series of works that shows a variety of his studio practise. From large-scale wall sculptures conceived by juxtaposing wood panels treated with soil, to smaller collages and drawings on found book pages. The hard-edged abstractions are remnants of typographic characters. Reith explores the friction between a tranquil visual language and the clearness of communication design. Personal stories are translated into bold geometric compositions.
