Her recent ceramic production of sculptures and objects has expanded to architectural dimensions. For Pierre Marie Giraud, McKirdy is taking over the gallery spaces with large compositions, wall pieces, and partitions. Rough textures juxtaposed with sleek and shiny glazes creates vibrant dualities and eye-catching contrasts. Inspired by natural and organic forms, the shapes of McKirdy are reminiscent of seeds and fruits and infused with symbolism. Kristin McKirdy captures contemporary still-lives and showcases the tensions between natural and man-made, organic and mineral, a dull shell and a bright core. In her work, appearances can be deceptive, and her seemingly playful artworks embed deeper layers of understanding.
