Los Super Elegantes Performance Retrospective: Forever Up, And Coming Now

Los Super Elegantes Performance Retrospective: Forever Up, And Coming Now

In 1994, Milena Muzquiz and Martiniano Lopez-Crozet began practicing experimental entertainment together and performing as “Los Super Elegantes” at small clubs in San Francisco. They were signed to BMG Mexico in 2001 and recorded three albums, receiving mainstream attention as they reached the top of music charts in Mexico. Upon moving to Los Angeles, the duo continued to record music, produce videos, and perform plays throughout Southern California and South America, inspired by their personal experiences and elements of culture. The two invented “blind singing,” a musical writing technique they blindfolded each other and sang over their recorded music, believing that this would make their lyrics the most honest, and the melody and chorus would naturally fall into place. Los Super Elegantes participated in the 2004 Whitney Biennial and 2007 Sao Paulo Biennial, striving to not be defined as a pop music group or as contemporary artists.
