Viasaterna is pleased to announce Kaleidos, first solo show of Teresa Giannico (Bari, 1985). The exhibition presents two projects representing stories of real interiors, intimate spaces and suspended worlds that are constituted by sediments of objects of different nature as in the Kaleidos game.
Lay out and Ricerca8 are two series of works that employ techniques of photography, drawing and sculpture, which put the final image into perceptual ambiguity. For years Teresa has appropriated and archived images of objects used in our daily life, such as bottles, rugs and chairs, which are then collected in a personal catalog ordered by typologies. From this visual deposit the artist selects the images for the composition, first drawn in pencil and then realized through a series of consecutive steps. The objects, printed on paper and mounted on a rigid support, are composed to constitute a small scale diorama. A reconstructed micro-world that the artist photographs and then eliminates, even though its traces remain in the final image where the diorama is the photographed subject.
For Lay Out (2015) the artist focuses on the reproduction of real interiors taken from ads published online, linking the private sphere and the public showcase of the digital space. Ricerca8 (2018), on the other hand, is faithful to painting juxtaposition: objects seem suspended in mystery, they speak of human presence, but it never appears, if not filtered through representation.
