Humble but hungry
Inspired by the online world, especially social media like Instagram, Gina Beavers designs works of art from the ether of digital images into physical objects that convey both sensuality and dislikes. Her three-dimensional, colorful canvases capture a variety of contemporary themes, such as make-up tutorials, food porn or human body selfies. In her relief-like paintings, she succeeds in crystallizing the physical aspects of these themes, confronting the viewer with questions of consumption, desire and self-perception to think about today's society and the consequences of digitization.
The artist is also being shown for the first time in a solo exhibition at MoMA PS1 in New York, the city where she lives and works. „The Life I deserve“ is on from March 31 till September 2, 2019.
