French photographer Vincent Fournier uses his lens as a means of visual escape into other worlds. Whether it is a sojourn into space or an imagined utopian universe, Fournier reveals the potential of photography to transport the viewer to another place altogether.
Borrowing ideas from history and popular culture, Fournier grounds his photography in elements of reality and plays upon the notions of our contemporary culture as to what the future might hold. This results in images that play upon the very elements already instilled within his audience’s imagination and thus allows these vignettes to seemingly come to life.
Fournier enjoys a regular schedule of exhibitions that feature his work. Selections from Fournier’s oeuvre have also made their way into prominent permanent collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York; the Centre Pompidou in Paris; and the MAST Foundation in Bologna. Recent exhibitions of his work include those as the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany and the ArtScience Museum in Singapore.
