The creator of a whole new universe, Theis Wendt’s world abolishes the need for concepts such as ‘away’ and ‘beyond’. Wendt’s organic and visceral sculptural works evoke thoughts of a post-humanist, dystopian future while his two dimensional pieces force the audience to look within in self-reference instead of outwardly to the world beyond. The materials he uses mimic the qualities of our own natural world’s textures and appearances, further enhancing this notion of a universe destroyed.
Born in 1981 in Copenhagen, Denmark Wendt first studied at Metáfora Centro d'Art Contemporany in Barcelona before receiving his Master of Fine Arts from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art. He continues to live and work in Copenhagen.
Wendt’s work has been the focus of solo shows throughout the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany while he has been included in group exhibitions in cities such as Istanbul, Copenhagen, Berlin, Bergen, Hanoi, Los Angeles, Paris, and Amsterdam.
