Tessa Perutz creates colourful, exuberant paintings in which she explores the back-and-forth between analog and digital modes of communication. She is interested in interpreting how ideas are perceived and traded based on common typographical and conversational devices – for example numbers, letters, hashtags, punctuation marks, arrows, envelopes etc.
In her landscape paintings, she works with clearly defined shapes and colour-fields – nature is rendered as an experience of colour.
Born in Chicago in 1988, Perutz received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She currently lives between New York and Brussels. Perutz has exhibited throughout the US and Europe. Recent exhibitions include La Lune Lavande at Stems Gallery in Brussels (2019), Sans Souci at 3-D Foundation in Verbier, Switzerland (2018), Letters from Abroad at Serving the People in New York (2018) and Karma Solaire at Pablo’s Birthday in New York (2018).
