Rimas Sakalauskas – one of the most gifted video artists representing the young generation. His video works have won great recognition both in Lithuania and abroad. Sakalauskas completed MA studies in photography and media arts at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and graduated the Royal College of Art in the UK. The artist has been successfully working with the best Lithuanian theatre directors for several years. The brightest debut of the artist was his film ‘Synchronisation’ created in 2009. This work soon appeared in the collection of the Contemporary Art Centre, visited more than 70 different art festivals (ranging from Vilnius to New York and Brazil), and won grand prix in more than ten of them. All his animation and videos are aesthetically exquisite. Using minimal strokes, he portrays ugly scenarios with beauty and elegance. This is why the work he produces is mesmerizing and nostalgic, sweet and sour, disturbing yet engaging. In Rimas’ work, the unappealing is just another side to beauty.
