Mie Olise Kjærgaard
1974 · Denmark
Working in painting, sculptural objects, and installations, Mie Olise Kjærgaard focuses on the theme of man-made constructions and how they both interact and describe the nature of the society in which they are embedded. Recently, Olise Kjærgaard explored Latin America’s modern ruins and how they go through waves of desertion and occupation. Her work requires a great deal of travel, which has taken her as far as the Arctic Circle.
Born in Denmark in 1974, Mie Olise Kjærgaard received her Master of Fine Arts from Central St. Martins in London and Master in Architecture from Aarch, Aarhus(DK)/The Bartlett, University College London. She is based simultaneously in London, New York and Copenhagen; and recently has been travelling to residencies in Iceland, Berlin, and Skowhegan, Maine.
Kjærgaard’s work has been widely exhibited throughout Denmark and internationally. Her pieces have been displayed in noted institutions including the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Fine Art House, Museo de Arte Acarigua, Venezuela; Nikolaj Kunsthal, Copenhagen; and Torrance Art Museum, Los Angeles; among many others.
