Mees van Rijckevorsel
1990 · Netherlands
Skater, architect and draughtsman. Mees van Rijckevorsel is a young Dutch artist taking a situationist approach to skater culture. His intricate, labor-intensive drawings in simple crayons are reflections on small urban imperfections. He graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld academy in 2015 and has been hitting the streets ever since. His work zooms in on small scenes in which urban planning meets civil disobedience (or willful ignorance). By doing so, he emphasizes the romantic, human nature of our surroundings in a time where they seem to become more and more interchangeable with their digital conceptualizations.
