Working with loosened brushstrokes and vibrant color, Danish artist Lars Tygesen revisits the expressive potential of the paintbrush in each of his scintillating canvases.
Often turning to abandoned interiors as the scenes of his work, Tygesen enlivens these otherwise lifeless spaces with his bold brushwork and play with pattern and color. Blocky strokes construct loosened form that evokes that intensity of the painter’s process stroke by stroke.
Born in Denmark in 1979, Tygesen studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 2002 to 2008. Since then, he has enjoyed ample opportunity to showcase his work. Recent exhibitions include “Opstillinger” at Kunstbygningen i Vrå, Vrå (2014); “Playgrounds” at Kunstforeningen Det ny kastet, Thisted (2015); and an installation at the Viborg Kunsthal, Viborg (2016). Tygesen is based today in Silkeborg, Denmark.
