Employing bold hues and saturated planes of color, Dutch artist Jordy van den Nieuwendijk offers a contemporary take on the Golden Age tradition of the still life.
Choose simplified forms of everyday objects, van den Nieuwendijk enlivens them with through plays with shadow and perspective to conjure an illusionistic wonderland in each streamlined scene.
Born in 1985, van den Nieuwendijk trained at the Graphic Lyceum in Rotterdam until 2007 before furthering his study at the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague, the city that van den Nieuwendijk now calls home. Today he teaches Graphic Design at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague while also exhibiting his work internationally. Recent solo exhibitions include “Time Out – Knock Out” at Ninasagt in Düsseldorf, Germany (2017); “Kamerplanten” at De Voorkamer in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2018); and “Fool’s Spring” at FISK Gallery in Portland, Oregon (2019).
