Using his creative impulses to push beyond the everyday and the ordinary, American artist John Knuth embraces a diverse array of materials to transport his audience to another visual and experiential plane.
Assuming a process akin to the ancient practice of alchemy, Knuth encourages the viewer of his work to consider their own perceptions of the world around them. In doing so, Knuth asks of his viewer to contemplate the aesthetic implications of this new meaning that is created.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1978, Knuth earned his BFA from the University of Minnesota in 2001 and subsequently completed his MFA at the University of Southern California in 2005. He is currently based in Los Angeles, California, and maintains an active exhibition calendar for his work. Recent solo showcases include exhibitions at the Brand New Gallery in Milan, Italy (2015); the Marie Kirkegaard Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark (2016); and the Andrew Rafacz Gallery in Chicago, Illinois (2017).
