Artist biography

The art of American artist Fineman is all about time: fascinated by the ways in which our time has become compressed by the pressures of mass media all around us, Fineman uses her art as a statement on memory-making in this modern age.

Working quickly across her canvases as if jotting down a quick note to remember later, Fineman’s work aims to document and make permanent a momentary reflection or memory. By giving such a fleeting sense so much power, Fineman reveals to the viewer the ways in which art can reflect such evanescent moments caught in a liminal moment between past, present, and future.

Born in Berkeley, California, in 1991, Fineman earned her MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London in 2013 after having completed her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Today she is based in London and has enjoyed numerous exhibitions of her work. Recent showcases include those at The Sub in San Francisco (2015); the Eleven Spitalfields Gallery in London (2017); and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool (2018).
