Arturo Berned

Artist biography

Graduated in architecture in 1993 from the ETSAM and for years Director of Works and Projects of the LAMELA Studio, from 2000 he opts definitively for his vocation as a sculptor. During the past 20 years he has developed an intense body of large scale work, this being one of the identifying signs of his artistic proposal. An extraordinary connoisseur of metal, his pieces are conceived above all in stainless steel, lacquered or cut, although he also uses aluminium and bronze. In 2000 he won the first prize in the international competition “Puerta Escultura Loewe” and in 2012 the IVAM hosted his largest exhibition to date. The Valencian museum traced a journey through his creative universe with more than 50 works. In 2013 he was chosen as the first Spanish artist to give his version of the Lady Dior bag in the exhibition LADY DIOR AS SEEN BY and, shortly after, was chosen to represent Spain during the Dual Year Spain-Japan (2013-2014) with an exhibition of seven urban sculptures in the city of Fukuoka curated by Pritzker Toyo Ito.
