Barbara Nahmad was born in Milan in 1967, where she currently lives and works. She is Professor of Techniques and Technology of Painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Brera, Milan. In 1990 she graduated from the Accademia delle Belle Arti of Brera and after some experiences abroad, she came back to Italy to work as a set designer both for television and theatre. A few years laters she decided to completely devote herself to painting and since then her works have been exhibited in various Italian museums such as Padiglione Arte Contemporanea (PAC), Palazzo della Ragione and Palazzo Reale in Milan, the Jewish Museum in Bologna. Her works got international recognition, as they have been exposed in London, Berlin, New York, Shangai, Athens, Tel Aviv and The Hague. In 2009 she took part to the «Détournements Venise» project, hosted at the 53rd Biennale di Venezia, with a triptych on the economy and a video-sound installation. In 2014 her “Eden” collection was showed in Tel Aviv. It had a great success, as she was then exhibited in several other locations, including the Jewish Museum in Bologna during the European Night of Museums. The long pictorial cycle of Eden is a turning point for the artist: in fact her painting style is now more essential and it acquires sandy colours such as the ones of the desert. The desert itself, with its empty streches of sands, offers an original space to her people’s memory recollection. The oil on canvas speaks with a new voice and the events of the past acquire a different energy, which is strictly linked to the present and even affects it. In 2017 Barbara Nahmad was hired by Mediobanca for their “Two Step” advertising campaign. Her works can be found in public and private collections both in Italy and abroad. The Agnelli Collection, the Einaudi Foundation and the Rosselli Foundation keep some of her works in Turin, while the Mediobanca and Schwarz collection get them in Milan and the Jewish Museum exhibits them in Bologna. Her artworks from this serie can be found at the American College of Greece in Athens too.
