Gavin Brown's Enterprise | Rome
Gavin Brown’s enterprise opened in 1994, representing the artists Franz Ackermann, Verne Dawson, Peter Doig, Udomsak Krisanamis, Elizabeth Peyton, Steven Pippin, and Rirkrit Tiravanija. The gallery has gone on to represent artists such as Martin Creed, Jeremy Deller, Mark Leckey, Rob Pruitt, Jonathan Horowitz, Laura Owens, Alex Katz, Urs Fischer, Sturtevant, Ed Atkins, Rachel Rose, Avery Singer, Jannis Kounellis, Joan Jonas, Arthur Jafa, among many others.
The gallery quickly consolidated its position as one of New York’s, and the world’s, foremost representatives of the finest artists working today. In 2015, the gallery opened its first location outside of the United States at Sant’Andrea de Scaphis, a deconsecrated eighth-century church in Rome, Italy. Meanwhile, 2016 heralded a new chapter in the history of GBE, as the gallery moved from its longtime space on Greenwich St. in the West Village to a three-story location in a former brewery at 439 W. 127th St.
The gallery functions primarily as a nurturing environment for artists to develop their work and is dedicated to sustaining and supporting their careers in New York and abroad.
