Deborah Schamoni is a contemporary art gallery based in Munich, Germany, founded in March 2013.
Since its beginning the gallery has presented works of upcoming international artists and followed in their presentation a decidedly curatorial approach. In their works most of the represented artists scrutinize the new challenges we face in society today as a result of the impact of technology and digital communication, the new changed relationship to everyday materials and the transformed perception of the body.
The gallery presented the works of KAYA (Kerstin Brätsch and Debo Eilers), A.L. Steiner and Amalia Ulman in Germany for the first time. Furthermore the gallery has supported and closely accompanied major institutional exhibitions of its artists, for example the solo project of Judith Hopf at Museion Bozen (2016), or of Flaka Haliti at National Gallery of Arts, Tirana, Albania (2018).
Importantly, the gallery frequently works with curators in an intense content-related exchange on an international level. Since 2014 several editions of “Die Marmory Show” took place in the gallery spaces, co-curated respectively with Gürsoy Doğtaş, Nikola Dietrich and Eva Birkenstock, bringing together new and emerging artistic positions. Besides the gallery’s international direction, the bond which the gallery forges with the Munich art scene and its institutions is of importance, and in the past years different projects and dialogues with local partners have been realized.
