X-Ray Paintings

X-Ray Paintings

alleri Jacob Bjørn is pleased to present a solo exhibition of the x-ray painting series by the American artist Graham Collins.

The X-Ray paintings are realist, oil on canvas reproductions of images of old paintings which are taken during the conservation process. The pictures contain a readymade composite image showing the degradation to the wood and canvas supports, hardware like racks and staples and hanging wire, underpainting and outer surface at once. Multiple collaborators were employed to copy these images including the artist, several colleagues, and hired technicians.

Each individual painting uses a different copying method: projection, tracing, grid transfer, carbon copy, worked up into a painted rendering of the original found image.
