The collectors' selection
The Schönfeld Gallery kicks off with a solo exhibition by the formidable Dutch artist Erwin Olaf (born in 1959, lives in Amsterdam). 'The collectors' selection' is a selection of small and large photographic works, which come mainly from private collections. The artist's sixtieth birthday, which will be celebrated this year in the Netherlands with three major exhibitions, will not go unnoticed in Belgium either. Erwin Olaf has an international reputation, and he is considered one of the most talented and important photographers of our time. His series of extremely aesthetic photos, whether or not accompanied by a video, are staged down to the smallest detail. Moving from an open provocation to a more reserved style, his series has retained this character of a contemporary allegory of our world, our society and our emotions. His work may be superb and tinged with decadent baroque, but it is not without humour, irony and critical thinking.
