This year is the fifty years since Ørnulf Opdahl held his first separate exhibition in Galleri Haaken, and the lasting good collaboration is now celebrated with an exhibition of 13 new paintings by the artist.
Opdahl's first exhibition at Galleri Haaken in 1969 was a great success and a number of Ørnulf Opdahl's works were immediately purchased by the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, the Norwegian Arts Council, the National Gallery and Art in the School. With the current exhibition, Galleri Haaken is proud to showcase the result of Ørnulf Opdahl's enduring immersion in and intensification of his artistry. The abstracted, expressionist anchored landscape images are characterized by Opdahl's deep respect for the monumental western landscape. Opdahl rarely shows signs of describing the places he is surrounded by as documentation, but rather "as atmosphere and atmosphere", as curator Tove Lande at the Jugendstilsenteret and KUBE in Ålesund puts it in the book "Ørnulf Opdahl. In the dark, the light »was published at Orfeus Forlag in 2017. The major task of creating a pervasive retrospective exhibition of the artist, who is often referred to as the contemporary renewal of the landscape painting, has already been done (in Ålesund, 2017). With the current exhibition in 2019, Galleri Haaken only chooses to showcase Ørnulf Opdahl's latest production.
