On The Road
For Salustiano, his life is kilometers of endless roads that have left their mark on him, in his experiences, in his memory. Hundreds of millions of images and sensations crowd today forming a colorful and refreshing dream. Salustiano goes through sunsets, sunrises and noon. Motels and gas stations. Very fine rain and typhoons. Volcanoes and bamboo. 7-Eleven and flags in all languages. Every landscape, every meter traveled makes him anxious knowing that he will probably never cross them again. But in Salustiano's works there is no room for drama. In this exhibition, his latest works are filled with vibrant colors that lead us down a path of luminous dreams of neon lights bathed in melancholy. Salustiano's work supposes the visual projection of the emotion that we can capture in the instantaneousness of the gesture. It is a spontaneous experience that takes us vividly to a corner of our memory. Pure pigments subtly treated on a canvas and a very refined technique is reflected on backgrounds that place us under sublime atmospheres; a treatment of perspective reminiscent of flamenco art from the 15th centuries and XVI where the character appears in a composition that requires logic, where the calculation of each movement is inevitably mathematical. Salustiano plays with themes that aim to break a classic first impression; reaching a baroque presence of static forms, but at the same time dynamic and effective. Splashing the works with carefree winks, he emphasizes the surprising and the anecdotal contextualized in a sensitive timelessness; provoking us with ambiguous characters always on the edge of the transgressor.
