Pere Gastó i Vilanova (1908-1997) is an artist who, still today, continues without leaving anyone indifferent. Worshiped by few and misunderstood by many, it is a special and undoubtedly unique painter. Gastó was able to generate his own language based mainly on the deep study of the human figure and psyche. His work evolved from realism towards formal personal codes that drink from Central European Expressionism and establish a magical, dreamlike connection - sometimes ghostly - with the depths of the human soul. His pictorial approaches revolve around the understanding of the dualities of man, of transcendent topics such as Beauty, Death, Dreaming or the transformation of everyday reality.
The exhibition PERE SPENDED. 'L'ésser inacabat' presents a selection of works, most of them unpublished, that illustrate the artist's evolution in a concentrated way. In it you can admire its different facets, from the passage of a first figuration where the light work is treated masterfully, until the achievement of new formal codes that define its famous 'actors' and the aesthetics and enigma of the 'unfinished being'.
