In the late 1970ies and 80ies Frankfurt is not exactly a center for art. The Städelschule is far away from its international reputation which it has today, and the museum landscape misses the important institutions for contemporary art which enrich the city nowadays. Around that time these artists meet in their own kitchen or at public places like copy shops, to assist each other at their individual projects. Friendships develop, solidarity grows, intellectual as well as personal interaction leads to something that we might can call a movement today, but definitely a spirit which shaped todays art scene in Frankfurt and what areas of activity in art became characteristic for that time. The group exhibition gathers positions of this early Frankfurter movement and shows works from this time to emphasize how carrying friendships and togetherness are and what possibilities and energies result from supporting and inspiring each other. It is not only about becoming a group out of many individuals, but rather growing strong individual positions out of a commonality.
