Have a Ball
VIVID is bringing together 3 Rotterdam-based designstudios in ‘Have A Ball’ an exhibition that starts in the end-of-the-year festive period and is all about having a party…. Rotganzen (Robin Stam, Joeri Horstink and Erik Schilp) became international famous with their work “Quelle Fête” : the iconic shape of the discoball that is reborn with new character and meaning in an ode to the happy days of disco. Also by Rotganzen are 3 new poufs, a star, a heart, a smiley, based on oversized letter garlands and made of glittering faux leather; because,…. how could we survive without a smiley face or a happy heart?
Chris Kabel is showing his Office Party Lamp, a lamp he designed for the Portikus art centre in Frankfurt. He transformed cool neon fixtures into a merry mix of colours by sliding a transparant garland over it.
Ward van Gemert, Nightshop signed for 3 days in a row on a white metal cupboard everything that came in his mind when he thought about having a party. After the drawing is ready the cupboard gets a thick layer of clean resin. The joyfull cupboard has similarities with the wellknown work of the Italian artist and designer Fornasetti. Also by Nightshop (Ward van Gemert and Adriaan van der Ploeg) is the POV sign, a big lamp that changes color dependining on where the viewer is standing
