Fred Sandback

This summer, Galerie Thomas Schulte is very pleased to present German painter Jonas Weichsel's first solo exhibition at the gallery, alongside a minimalist yarn sculpture by US-American artist Fred Sandback in the Corner Space.

From the late 1960s, Fred Sandback (1943-2003) created an expansive oeuvre of linear sculptures, employing minimal means to achieve spatial effects that combine artwork, space, and the viewer's perception. This work, using the form of a "broken" triangle and configured for the gallery's Corner Space, utilizes only a few stretched lines of acrylic yarn to achieve Sandback's spatial intervention. In the artist's own words, "My work doesn't take over a space, but rather coexists with it."
