DAY & NIGHT

The African artists Wycliffe Mundopa and Gresham Tapiwa Nyaude, who are both living and working in Zimbabwe, reflecting in their colorful expressive paintings on the impact of their environment, which confronts the viewer with topics such as poverty, violence, prostitution and social classification of people. Even if both artists have similar themes, they approach them differently: Mundopa’s artworks focus on the dynamic lives of African women and their different roles in conflict between tradition and modern life as well as children, who become adults early on because of economic burdens. Nyaude’s figures resist a concrete characterization and identity. His images oscillate between figuration, abstraction and hallucination.
