Bye Bye Circo Massimo
Montoro12 Contemporary Art is pleased to present 'Bye Bye Circo Massimo', the first solo show by Fabio Ranzolin, curated by Amalia Nangeroni. The exhibition project is a reflection on Italian tradition and its contradictions, and focuses specifically on its cultural stratifications, placing an emphasis on Rome and homoerotic passion. 'Tradizione' shares the same root with 'tradimento': in fact, both derive from the Latin verb tradere, which etymologically refers to a delivery, a passage, a transmission. Ranzolin gives the viewer's an interpretation of some objects, but also fragments and experiences belonging to other subjects, which he takes over, betraying them and sometimes placing them in relation to organic elements and industrial objects. “Lo sfogo tuo, lo prendo come tale, vive della tua sola esperienza, ora hai la mia” - with these words in pre-spaced gold pvc, visitors are welcomed in the gallery. It is a sentence, of which the artist has appropriated himself, betraying the original sender, who in turn is a traitor. Deliberately vague, the phrase lends itself to multiple misunderstandings.
