Artist Statement When I start a painting, I take a look at the plants, flowers, the jugs, pitchers, and vases that I live with. Some I love, some not so much. I draw my subjects in charcoal and fix them on canvas with a brush and mineral spirits. Then, using oil paint and brushes I begin a dialogue with color and space, push and pull. In two dimensions it is a dance, working out relationships on the canvas with space and color. The canvas becomes a puzzle to be solved. Often difficult but also exciting. Sometimes satisfying. Always completely engaging.
