A Cocktail To Drown The Sorrows

A Cocktail To Drown The Sorrows

A Cocktail To Drown The Sorrows Yamilys Brito Jorge (b. Havana, Cuba 1972) Inspired by the shuttering of Havana’s lively clubs and bars, as well as it’s liquor stores during quarantine, A Cocktail To Drown The Sorrows is Yamilys Brito Jorge’s reply to the elimination of this much-needed form of escape. Through this series, started during the early days of the pandemic, she imagined herself becoming a bartender of sorts, mixing colors with brushes and pens, stirring in complexity with block printing techniques and shots of watercolors, adding a dash of whimsy and two shakes of allusion to create a powerful mix of transportive imagery. Along the way she has become a cocktail historian of sorts, her extensive research and resultant creativity providing a getaway from her current reality.

Exhibition runs September 9th - October 18th, 2020.
