Driven by a desire to mass produce art and artistic statements as objects, Zven Balslev’s roots in self-organized publications inform his interest in the communicative potential of graphic art. Working largely in the language of cartoons, Balslev’s “joke drawings” feature a tormented protagonist in numerous grotesque and macabre situations. Experimenting with printing forms like lithography, risography, aquatint, photocopy, linoleum printing, copper printing, and high pressure, Balslev has published a wide range of art publications including posters, record covers, and limited edition prints.
Born in 1977 in Denmark, Zven Balslev graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Copenhagen’s Royal Academy of Art in 2008.
Balslev has enjoyed numerous solo and group shows in Copenhagen and throughout Scandinavia. He currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
