American artist Zane Lewis’ dynamic body of work reveals his virtuosity an artist alongside his potential to transform the larger dialogues of painting. Through his bold use of color and his intense application of it on the surface of his compositions, Lewis offers a fascinating intersection of artistic ideas both past and present.
Encouraging a visceral response on the part of the viewer of his works, Lewis’ compositions compel those who see them to dive into his spray-painted splashes of jarring colors that seem to overtake the surface of each work. These bold colors at the same time repel the viewer, creating a tension between wanting and resisting the temptation to investigate each composition.
Born in Texas in 1981, Lewis attended the School of the Visual Arts in New York. He is currently based in Los Angeles. In addition to recent solo showcases of his work at The Hole Gallery in New York and the Galerie Eric Hussenot in Paris, Lewis was also a featured participant in the Gether Contemporary at Market Art Fair (2018).
