About Stephanie Hier's works
Stephanie Hier is a key figure within the fields of Figuration and Design. Figurative art has been around since the earliest stages of visual arts, and involves any form of modern art which references the real-world or the human figure, in opposition to Abstraction. Figurative art embraces a significant multitude of styles, thus remaining a truly innovative and major category in which artists created critically acclaimed masterpieces, such as Pablo Picasso’s painting Les Demoiselles D’Avignon, or Paul Cézanne’s The Bathers.
What separates art from design has been a longstanding debate, the lines are blurred. The classical notion of design used to be anchored in the Decorative Arts, but later on branched itself into a variety of areas such as graphic design, fashion design, or industrial design. The Arts and Crafts Movement and The Bauhaus were extremely influential movements that pursued for a unification of true artistic creativity with the manufacturing of objects.
