1912 - 1973 · United States
Bronx-born artist Sidney Lazarus (1912-1973) was an insider at the very heart of the 1930’s avant-garde. He showed at the legendary Julien Levy gallery alongside many of the artists who have now come to be known as modern masters. The whirlwind of his early career should have poised him for tremendous art world success. Throughout his life Lazarus had met individuals who wanted to help him gain recognition for his work. However, he took particular delight in sabotaging those opportunities. Today, Shin Gallery is very pleased to salvage from obscurity this masterfully executed, playfully macabre series of drawings in the spirit of Surrealism.
