1974 · Ireland
The work of Sarah Dwyer is foundationally ruminative, conjuring space for explorations of trace memories in dialogue with inspirations from poetry, literature and folklore. Drawing is at the heart of her practice, though often combined with painting, printmaking, sewing and sculpture, resulting in liberating, unpredictable forms and approaches to mark-making. Possessing elements of both figuration and abstraction, her compositions are liminal results of a dynamic, visually translative process. Reduction and erasure play as much a part as application and layer; an intimate relationship between the decisive and the intuitive. Surfaces are worked and reworked, retaining layers of development and discernible history.
