Further Biographical Context for Michel Faure

Born in 1911, Michel Faure was primarily inspired by the 1930s growing up. Globally this period can be best characterised by the conflict between the world’s foremost political philosophies - Marxist Socialism, Capitalist Democracy, and the Totalitarianism of both Communism and Fascism. The era assumed a sinister turn with the dawn of National Socialism in Germany, and Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in 1933. The decade would culminate in the inset on the Second World War; a political and social uproar that preoccupied not only artists, but great swathes of the global population.
