Working in sculpture, drawing, film, and performance, Mat Chivers collaborates with individuals and institutions to explore concepts such as perception, cognition, evolutionary process, ethics, and ecology. Blending science, technology, and academia Chivers’ work is a response to place and the wider relationships with land and materials that we all depend on and share. Through a process deeply steeped in in-depth research his work is able to bring traditional approaches into play with state-of-the-art digital technologies.
Born in 1973 in Bristol, United Kingdom, Mat Chivers now lives and works between Totnes, United Kingdom and Montréal, Canada. His education in Fine Art Sculpture consisted of an Erasmus cultural exchange between the United Kingdom’s Nottingham Trent University and the Escuela Des Belles Artes in Barcelona, Spain.
