Dutch artist Louis Reith links the materials of everything from drawing and collage to installation work with his underlying fascination with the printed book. This combination has resulted in a dynamic body of work that resonates with simple, streamlined elements. Often calling upon a simplified palette and the use of sophisticated patterns and forms that he collages upon found pieces of book paper, Reith’s work echoes elements of the past at the same time that it offers a new look forward. In pulling together such combinations, Reith encourages the viewer of his work to contemplate the art of the printed page and its intersections with art and design.
Born in Hengelo, the Netherlands, in 1983, Reith is currently based in Zetten. Reith earned his BA at the AKI Academy for Art & Design in Enschede in 2010 and has since thrown himself into a rigorous exhibition schedule alongside being a member of Dutch Independent Art Book Publishers. Recent solo exhibitions of Reith’s work include those at Ninasagt in Düsseldorf, Germany (2015); Art Rotterdam w/ Mini Galerie in Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2016); Loom Gallery in Milan, Italy (2017); and Charlotte Fogh Gallery in Aarhus, Germany (2018).
