Born into a family of artists, Laszlo Thorsen-Nagel’s father and grandfather were both painters and sculptures. Surrounded at a young age by abstract modernist art and design, Thorsen-Nagle’s adulthood was an exploration of his own development of minimalistic language through painting. Utilising ancient techniques of sumi-e brush strokes on paper, canvas, and clay board; Laszlo Thorsen-Nagel seeks to generate light through his ink’s line density, opacity, and space.
Born in Bavaria, Germany in 1989, Thorsen-Nagel received his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Parsons the New School for Design in New York City. He has remained in the United States and currently lives and works in Marfa, Texas.
His work has been exhibited throughout the United States in cities like New York City, Marfa, Los Angeles, Seattle, Santa Fe, Chicago, and Dallas — in addition to reaching as far as Cologne, Germany. His work can be found in the collections of Hotel Saint George in Marfa, Texas and the Tandis Cestiva in Dalton, Georgia. His work has been published in ARTE: Kunst in der Wüste, Elle Decore Italia, and Vogue Italia.
