Working with bold color and relatable form, Danish artist Kristian Devantier plays with the pull of Pop art in his dynamic body of work that recalls such themes while also deviating from them.
Creating seemingly familiar entities that in the end are not familiar at all, Devantier unsettles his viewer. By doing so, Devantier encourages his audience to take a closer look and dive into these narrative nuances.
Born in Denmark in 1971, Devantier studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 2000. Following the completion of his schooling, Devantier launched himself into an ambitious exhibition schedule that he continues to keep up. Recent years have seen showcases such as “Zebra til Zebra” at the Viborg Stiftsmuseum (2002); “Dansk sommer 90 x 90” at the Galleri Christoffersen in København (2003); and “Et år efter...,” at Julius Bloms Gade 4 kld in København (2004).
