Using the materials of the everyday and the discarded, American artist Joshua Saunders creates striking assemblages of various materials that combine into enticing pattern and visual play.
Using the language of geometry to ground his works, Saunders adds machine-made materials into his collaged creations, Saunders creates works that comment of the very nature of the symbols and the forms of our modern world. A cheery palette and the neat clarity of his work subdue the larger point Saunders makes as to the transience of the viewer’s experience.
Based in Austin, Texas, Saunders has been an active exhibitor of his work. For example, he participated in the group show entitled “Double Vision” at the Steve Turner Gallery in Lose Angels (2018) and was also featured in a solo exhibition, entitled “Rock Candy,” at the same gallery (2016).
