Creating powerful illusions with the subtle gradations of color that dominate his work, Australian artist Jonny Niesche uses this play of color to create a new realm of compositional abstraction that is ultimately scintillating.
Soft washes of warm hue coalesce across his digital panels to the point that the viewer might be forgiven in thinking that they are merely machine made. In creating such a compositional space, Niesche forces crucial questions as to the role of color, light, and dimension in the world around us.
Born in Australia in 1972, Niesche earned his BA from Sydney University in 2007 and subsequently pursued his MFA with Mikala Dwyer at the same institution. Following the completion of his graduate work in 2013, Niesche embarked on an ambitious exhibition schedule for his work. Recent solo shows include “Picture this” at Station in Melbourne (2016); “Cracked Actor” at Peter Von Kant in London (2017); “throb” at Zeller Van Almsick in Vienna (2018); and “Art Athina Summer” at Zeller Van Almsick in Athens (2019).
