Ji Eun Lee
1984 · Republic of Korea
A true innovative force in the field of sculpture, Ji Eu Lee incorporates a wide variety of material into her works in an effort to explore the very bounds of the spaces they inhabit.
Wanting to explore the unexplored aspects of our world, Lee tries to tap into the realm of the invisible as she tries to quantify elements such as the vacant or hollow. By filling these spaces repeatedly across her body of work, Lee creates new structures that interrupt the gallery space as they engage with the viewer in new ways.
Born in 1984 in Seoul, South Korea, Lee earned both his BA and MA from Kookmin University there. He then continued his studies at the University of Arts in Bremen, Germany, where he received the DAAD Matching Fund Scholarship in 2015, and the Art Academy Dusseldorf. He is now based in Beyreuth, Germany. His most recent accolade came in 2017 when his nomination for the Blooomaward by Warsteiner, Germany. He has been exhibited his works for more than a decade at various locations around the globe, including at the OMS Art Gallery (New York, 2013); the LOT-Lack of Transmission in both Detroit and Toronto (2015); and the Biesenbach Gallery in Cologne (2017).
