Playing with the medium of clay, Guido Geelen has been making sculptures since the 1980s. Working with organic forms, Geelen has experimented with many different forms -- including freely modelled pieces, casts of familiar objects, hanging diabolo-shaped pieces, and most recently; celadon-glazed bricks that radiate glass tubes for floral vases.
Born in 1961 in Thorn, Netherlands, he attended the Teachers’ Academy in Tilburg from 1979 until 1983 and the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming Tilburg from 1983 to 1985. He now lives and works in Tilburg full time in his own studio.
Geelen has exhibited widely throughout the Netherlands and Europe as a whole, in noted institutions including the Bonnefanten Museum, Netherlands; Henry Moore Institute, United Kingdom; Noordbrabants Museum, Netherlands; Europäisches Patentamt und Rathausgalerie, Germany; and the Museum of Art and Design, Finland. He also has his work in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
