Artist biography

According to Brazilian artist Ding Musa, “every look is political, every image is deliberately constructed.” Musa is fascinated by the photographic image and its genders, in particular landscapes. The concepts of “representation” and “point of view” play a central role in his photography work. His early works discussed the relation between the final image and the place where the picture was taken, producing images that would be suggestions of a landscape or a feeling after experiencing a certain place at a certain time. For his “other place” series, Musa photographed the same places at different times of the day, and in different weather conditions.

Musa, who lives and works in São Paolo, Brazil, has exhibited extensively both in Brazil and internationally. He is represented by Galeria Raquel Arnaud gallery in São Paolo and Galeria Ponce+Robles in Madrid. Musa participated in Art Weekend São Paolo Art 2018, and most recently, his work was shown at Galeria Raquel Arnaud’s exhibition new collectors campaign.

Musa’s work is in various museums in Brazil and several collections abroad, among them the Museu de Arte Moderna in Salvador, in São Paulo, in Rio de Janeiro and in Fortaleza (Centro Dragão do Mar), the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Goiás, the Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Paraná, the Museu do Estado do Pará, the Salão de Arte de Ribeirão Preto and the Centro Cultural São Paulo. Recently, two museums, the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo and the Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul, acquired series of artworks by the artist. Galeria Raquel Arnaud represents the artist since 2014, the same year when the solo exhibition Equações was presented at the gallery.
