Coline Marotta lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. She received her MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2017.
Coline’s paintings and drawings depict scenes of failed communication and intimacy, restless characters trying to fit in. She is interested in how difficult it can be to stay with your own state of relaxation and calm- and tolerate such states.
Even though Coline’s works deal with feelings such as frustration, misunderstanding or uncomfortableness, they keep being playful, generous and light.
Appropriation is an important part of Coline’s process, helping her elaborate a reflection on what it is to be a painter today and how to deal with the history of painting.
